When children open the protected door, window or gate by more than 1 each, the unit will sound its built-in 110 dB high output alarm, notifying nearby adults of the attempted entry. The by-pass button allows entry to exit for adults without sounding the alarm, but if the sensors are left open the alarm will sound within 7 seconds.
